KF House

Built to expand rather than add rooms, its indoor-outdoor edge held back from every boundary to meet a family that gathers in numbers.
KF House is built for a family with a habit of gathering in large numbers — and its answer isn't more rooms, it's rooms that can change size. The plan keeps the boundary between indoor and outdoor space deliberately adaptable, so the house can expand to meet a gathering rather than being renovated for one.
That flexibility reaches its most literal point at the kitchen island, which is built to move rather than stay fixed — a small, specific answer to a recurring, large event.

The client's other condition shaped the massing directly: the house was not to touch the neighboring property on any side. Held back from every boundary, that edge becomes the buffer the indoor-outdoor connection actually runs through.
Arrival is filtered rather than fully open: a slatted timber canopy over the carport, a vertical screen at the threshold, then an open living-dining-kitchen in cream cabinetry and walnut-toned wood, lit by island pendants, floored in the same gray tile that continues out to the carport.
KF House meets 'a family that gathers often' with a plan built to flex on every side — not with square footage, but with a boundary, an island, and a massing all designed to move when the household does.
